Designing a Nervous Breakdown

Welcome to the world of emo power-pop. Combining
the whimsy of The Rentals and
the typical Get Up Kids emoting,
The Anniversary seem to go to the emo well a little too often,
pulling out words like "scared" and "run"
on a pretty regular basis. Manly? Not really. The first few
songs seem original, but become less so as they slog through
a very similar sounding second half. |
Your Majesty

This one is less swinging than their debut,
Designing a Nervous Breakdown, eliminating the wacky keyboard
and going after a more authentic, retro sound. They end up sounding
more like Koufax or some sauced-up
Brit band on a Weezer bender. Despite
the more mature sound, they seem to be taking themselves less
seriously trying to carve their own niche in the overcrowded
indie-pop landscape--with mixed results. |
