I Sold Gold It's kind of like The
Rentals meet 12 Rods. I'm not
sure where that gets us other than into the land of 80s retro
weirdness--as if the album cover isn't enough of a give-away.
It almost feels at times like this guy is messing with us,
like the music is less earnest and more some practical joke
on all these throw-back junkies. If the songs weren't so pop-a-licious,
I might be more skeptical. Pop it in the car CD player and
pretend you're back in high school. It'll be rad!
Or Give Me Death I never get sick of this album. There's
something just so familiar about it, all throwback and achingly
current at the same time. It has cool drum machines and keyboards
mixed in with actual instruments, and the guy just rocks out
and makes some damn good pop tunes. Equal parts early Weezer
and some 70s Bachmann-Turner
Overdrive or ELO
or something, I find the album just incredibly listenable
and a fresh take on indie rock music.
