XVI B, D 16 1st Ave., 212/260-1549 This bi-leveled lounge/dance club is like two, two, two parties in one! Stay upstairs, and XVI (16, for all of our Roman numeraly impaired friends) is a cool East Village hipster joint with the consummate loungy back room. Go downstairs, and you are faced with what amounts to a crazy sweat fest with the kiddies, bumpin' to that new fangled house-type music. Actually, the downstairs feels like a frat party gone horribly wrong, but is fun enough if you've spent the night guzzling the more than generous cocktails in the upstairs lounge. Come early, as lines are known to form when the kids sneak out and the bridge & tunnel freaks find a good parking spot. [MF] |
