There's something perverse
about a "deli" being a public company (Nasdaq: BUNZ), let
alone being sold on Nasdaq, but this is the world we live in, I guess.
Apparently there are other locations around the U.S. that are much
nicer than this one (check this
out), and include wireless Internet access, and sponsor cool music
events. This one's kind of a dump to be honest. It's not as if it's
any different than any other fast food establishment in midtown, but
the mere volume and general grunginess of Manhattan's air quality
hasn't served this place well. As far as the food goes, it's basically
somewhere between Subway
and Cosí,
offering their own funky take on the bread thing (they have decided
to take the tear the crap out of the top of your mouth approach) and
in most cases split the difference cost-wise. Unlike the aforementioned
chains, Schlotzsky's actually bothers putting a little meat on their
sandwiches, and tries to spruce up things by varying their menu somewhat.
Calling it a deli is kinda like calling Johnny Rockets a diner, but
what can we really expect from a company based in Texas? [MF]
