Our first issue with
this place is its confusing name. Is it Chevy's as in '57 Chevy, or
is it Chevy's as in Chevy Chase? Mr. Hipster likes to pretend he knows
his business, and mispronouncing the name of a Mexican food chain
is a serious faux pas. (Of course I was the guy who had no idea that
it's supposed to be "running the gantlet" and not "running
the gauntlet" until just last month.) That aside, there is so
much more to hate about this place. It's a chain restaurant in Times
Square for one. It's cavernous and very "T.G.I. Friday's"
for another. But despite its shortcomings, Chevy's isn't the worst
thing in the world. We've had worse Mexican food at places that purport
to be authentic. We've had worse times at places that other reviewers
have said are fun. Plus, how can you ever go wrong when there are
margaritas involved? Sorry to be such a sellout, but I call 'em like
I see 'em. [MF] |
