There are some places in Manhattan
that can only exist on the Upper East Side. Annie's is one of those
stroller and yuppie havens that sprouted from the evil head of the
UES monster to wreak havoc with our lunching and brunching habits,
making us wait an hour to scarf dense French toast and fruit salads
until we can scarf no more. Unlike its other Gorgon sisters to the
north, Annie's manages to make the experience pleasant, tasty and
reasonably priced. If you're looking for a quiet place to sip coffee
and enjoy a scone, take your stretchpanted ass somewhere else, but
if you want to mix it up with some of the best the UES has to offer,
try the banana French toast and go home with a feeling you scored
one of the better deals in the neighborhood. [MF]
